It also provides adequate working time at higher shop temperatures. When combined with 105 Resin in a five-part epoxy resin to one-part hardener ratio, the cured Resin/Hardener mixture yields a rigid, high-strength, moisture-resistant solid with excellent bonding and barrier coating properties. 206 Slow Hardener is not intended for clear coating. We designed 105 Epoxy Resin to wet out and bond with wood fiber, fiberglass, and reinforcing fabrics. It also bonds well with a variety of metals. Unlike traditional wood glues, WEST SYSTEM 105 Resin-based epoxy mixtures are stronger than wood or many other substrates. With this epoxy, the goal of clamping is to simply ensure the epoxy contacts the entire surface for the duration of the cure time. We’ve formulated 105 Epoxy Resin (and its corresponding hardeners) without volatile solvents. Unlike polyester or vinylester resins, our epoxy virtually does not shrink after curing. With a relatively high flash point and no solvent odor, it’s safer to use than styrenated resins.West System 406-2 Colloidal Silica 1.7 oz406 Colloidal Silica is an epoxy thickening additive used to control the viscosity of the epoxy. It prevents epoxy runoff in vertical and overhead joints. This is a very strong filler. It creates a smooth mixture, ideal for general epoxy bonding and filleting. It is also our most versatile epoxy filler. Often used in combination with other fillers, 406 can be used to improve strength, abrasion resistance, and consistency of epoxy fairing compounds. The result is a tougher, smoother surface.
