The F-117 (A) Nighthawk, a stealth fighter, was secretly developed by Lockheed Martin Skunk Works in the late 1970s. Its existence wasn't officially acknowledged until 1988, and it first appeared publicly in 1990. During Operation Desert Storm, the F-117 played a crucial role, changing the combat question from 'How Many Aircraft are Needed to Take Out a Target?' to 'How Many Targets can be Taken Out with a Single Aircraft?'. It achieved an 80% mission success rate without any losses or damage. This effectiveness was key to ending the campaign in just 43 days. Beyond Desert Storm, the F-117 holds the record for the longest non-stop single-seat fighter flight and has a nearly perfect combat record, with only one Nighthawk lost in its 30-year service. It was officially retired by the USAF in April 2008.
