Nylon, a polyimide resin, is a lightweight yet robust thermoplastic material. Its density is approximately 0.041 lb./cu.in. It's a resilient material with a low coefficient of friction, performing well in abrasion tests against metals, other plastics, and hard rubber. Nylon can deform under load and revert to its original shape. It maintains impact strength across a wide temperature range (-60°F to 400°F) and has good resistance to most chemicals. It can be easily machined using standard metalworking machines, power hacksaws, band saws, or circular saws, with a coarse-toothed blade preferred.
