On February 8th and 9th, 1919, pilot Lucien Bossoutrot, accompanied by his mechanic Lhomde and twelve British military personnel, embarked on the maiden voyage of a commercial passenger aircraft, traveling from Toussus-le-Noble near Paris to Kenley near London. The 'Airbus' Farman Goliath took off at 11:50 AM on February 8th, safely landing in Kenley, Croydon, England, two hours and thirty minutes later. The prototype of the FF-60 had already completed its first flight, without passengers, in late October 1918. However, the German surrender on November 7th, 1918, rendered the French Air Force's order for a heavy bomber obsolete. Production at Farman's Billancourt plant was swiftly shifted to commercial use, marking the dawn of commercial aviation. In December 1918, the French magazine 'LAerophile' featured the Goliath 'Airbus' by Farman, describing its passenger cabin as an elegant, fully enclosed lounge, equipped with comfortable, lightweight wicker seats. Its elongated, spacious design, reminiscent of a large cigar, was enhanced by the use of large, sturdy windows, allowing passengers to enjoy unobstructed views of the breathtaking landscape below.
